Mechanical Design Engineer

Glasgow: near Inchinnan, Renfrew

Due to continued expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to make a significant contribution to the growth of our award–winning, international technology manufacturing business. Working within the Design Engineering team, you will play a key role in driving the design and development of new products from conception to manufacture. Identification and evaluation of new materials, methods, suppliers and processes will be key in improving quality, functionality, performance, and reliability through innovative design.

Typical duties and responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

Designing of sheet metal and moulded plastic chassis and components
Vibration analysis of products to ensure stability in transit and operation
Use of CFD to optimise airflow through products
Hand calculations and FEA of pressure retaining parts
Revising existing products or components to improve performance/reliability
Providing solutions to technical problems derived individually or as part of a team.
Create drawing packs for production parts

Candidates will have relevant experience in a mechanical engineering or mechanical design role, ideally in the design of machined pneumatic components, sheet metal chassis, pressure vessels and injection moulded parts. Candidates should also have a degree in a relevant engineering discipline or sufficient experience.

Essential skills -

Strong understanding of the design principles of manufacturing sheet metal and injection moulded parts
Strong understanding of design for manufacture principles
Use of Solidworks for 3D modelling, CFD and FEA analysis
Experienced in prototyping and validation
Experience of pneumatic systems and components would be desirable
Highly motivated and self-starter
