Scottish Highlands - Consultant in Cellular Pathology We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Consultant to join the Cellular Pathology department in the stunning Scottish Highlands. This is a full time (10PA's) replacement post however applicants wishing to work part time or looking for flexibility in the working week will be considered and if this is your first Consultant appointment it be a monitored graduated workload.  The successful applicant will complete a team of six Consultants providing a Cellular Pathology service for the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register with a licence to practice and in possession of or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Histopathology at the time of the interview.  The Department provides a balanced mixture of specialist and generalist reporting practice. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the general cellular pathology reporting rota and either have or develop special interests to complement those of colleagues and meet the needs of the Department. An interest in dermatopathology and diagnostic cytology would be advantageous but a general breadth of reporting as well as having the right person in post with us is also important.  The Department provides an extra-contractual autopsy service to the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (North) and participation in this service would be welcomed. There is no requirement to report cervical cytology. Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands and offers a range of leisure and sporting opportunities unequalled in the UK. We are delighted to have been selected to take on the exclusive recruitment for NHS Dumfries and Galloway and have been hugely impressed when meeting the Paediatric Department. With a newly designed Paediatric and Neonatal In-Patient facility at the new DGRI you will have excellent facilities to provide acute assessment and care of children and neonates. There will be additional commitments to general paediatric and/or community paediatric outpatient work. Additional training can be provided where required. All special interests can be accommodated and you will be encouraged to develop your skills. In a hospital of this size you will have the opportunity to take an active part in specialist services and to be part of service review and development. The Children’s Ward comprises of 12 in-patient beds, plus 8 beds as 23-hour care and 4 assessment beds. Surgical beds are shared between general surgery and orthopaedic surgery, with some admissions from other specialities also. The Neonatal Unit is classed as a Level 2 facility, however they do not provide long term ventilation; there is a policy of antenatal transfer to Glasgow where delivery is expected at less than 30-32 weeks, and where required they will intubate then transfer neonates to Glasgow/Edinburgh for specialist care. The new unit has 9 cots which comprises of 3 intensive care, 6 special care and also 2 transitional care rooms. You will currently have at least two years middle grade Paediatrics experience and valid GMC registration with a current license to practise. You will be joining a team of 7 Consultants, 4 permanent doctors, and 2 trainees.  There has been a significant development in the Women and Children’s Services in Dumfries & Galloway, in addition to the new unit, there is also ‘The Willows’ which is a centre for children and families that opened in 2016, a strong management team structure for the Women and Children’s Service is in place which ensures clear lines of accountability and clinical governance, and also there has been development of the community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. As a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics you will be working 10 sessions per week, with a resident 2 nd on-call rota (a Consultant will be available at home for support).  You will be located in a truly beautiful rural location. Rural Hospital based GP - Scotland       Interested in providing in-patient and A&E care? This is an excellent opportunity to develop acute care skills, supported by a highly-skilled multi-disciplinary team. You will provide medical care to Accident and Emergency Services, Rehabilitation Ward and the Acute Ward.  Based in a modern, purpose-built hospital in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland, the Emergency Department deals with approximately 15,000 patients per year many with relatively minor conditions but occasionally severely ill or injured patients when rapid evacuation will be required.  Supervision of the role in the Emergency Department is provided by Emergency Department Consultants.   The Emergency Department is staffed by experienced nursing staff including 4 Emergency Care Practitioners who will support the post holder in providing Emergency Service – treating minor and moderate illness and injury, admitting selective patients for intermediate care within the Acute Ward,  resuscitation and the transfer of more ill patients to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary by ambulance or for patients with severe trauma contacting the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service in Paisley who will helicopter in a consultant led retrieval team to transfer the patient rapidly to Glasgow. The post holder may occasionally be required to provide medical support, in an emergency, to the midwife led Obstetric Unit, the nurse led Renal Dialysis Unit and nurse delivered Chemotherapy Service.  In these settings no specialist knowledge of Obstetrics, Renal Dialysis or Chemotherapy will be expected: the standard required will be that of the ordinary doctor exercising due care. The purpose of this role is to work with visiting consultants, permanent nursing staff and AHPs in providing the hospital with medical staff appropriately skilled to deal with a wide range of medical work encountered.  The hospital also is the base for the Primary Care Out of Hours Service which is situated within the Emergency Department.  During the Out of Hours periods and weekends, it is expected that the Out of Hours Primary Care GP and the Hospital Doctor will work together sharing, where appropriate the care of patients. Your hours of work will be 44 hours per week on a shift system.  You will be expected to cover all aspects of the role including overnight work, daytime hospital work and weekend work, working in either the Emergency Department or the wards depending on the rota.  You will have advance notice of your part in the rota and each member of the team will rotate through all aspects of the rota and there maybe additional shifts available for you to undertake and these will attract additional remuneration. GP trained doctors may also (if they wish) undertake shifts within the General Practice Out of Hours Service by separate arrangements via a web based session booking system. We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Physician in Rheumatology & General Medicine to work in Dumfries and Galloway. The successful candidate will work primarily at the recently opened state of the art hospital in Dumfries and Galloway. You will join a growing team working closely with the Consultants and Associate Specialists delivering high quality rheumatology services to the people of the region and contributing to the Acute/General Medicine team (on call rota frequency of 1 in 12). The post is for 40 hours a week and you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise nursing and junior medical staff as well as medical students from the Scottish Universities. The Rheumatology team provide a high quality, comprehensive range of services primarily delivered in the outpatient setting, as well as ambulatory/day case treatment through a dedicated unit and inpatient care accommodation within the medical unit. Clinics are run on a hub and spoke model on the Dumfries and Stranraer sites. General Medicine has recently moved to the new hospital which has allowed for reconfiguration of ‘front door services’ with an emphasis on early senior review and decision making. Acute medical patients are now assessed in the Combined Assessment Unity (CAU), which is co-located with the Emergency Treatment Centre. During the working week this is supervised by a dedicated team of Acute Physicians, working doctors in training and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The Successful candidate will form part of the team of physicians supervising medical admissions out of hours and during the weekends on a rostered basis.
