An exciting opportunity has become available to work as an Acute Medicine Consultant in the beautiful location of Dumfries and Galloway. This impressive post will provide someone with the opportunity to work in the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) at the new hospital. The hospital is a 347-bed district general in the University town of Dumfries and serves a population of 148,000. The successful candidate will work closely with the three existing Acute Medicine Consultants and provide senior presence, clinical leadership and services in Acute/General Medicine. You will also have the opportunity to provide teaching, educational programmes and supervision of nursing staff, junior medical staff and medical students. Taking part in improving clinical effectiveness and maximising the use of the hospital’s facilities will be an important part of the job. If successful you will provide a key leadership role for the clinical services represented within the CAU by working with Lead Nurses and AHPs to develop protocols and care pathways. The location is outstandingly beautiful, with the landscape as a key feature in the design of the new hospital building. Dumfries is a great place to relocate to, it is well located for access to Scottish cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh, but also just a short drive from Carlisle in the north of England. The housing costs remain affordable, with excellent schools and low crime rates. The job, based on full time, will contain 9+1 programmed activities, including one allocated to supporting professional activities with a 1:12 on call rota. We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to work within the beautiful Scottish Highlands in Inverness and beyond to provide comprehensive care including outreach clinics in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This post offers 10 PA's on an 8:2 basis with additional EPA's available, following discussion.  The successful candidate will join the current nine Consultants, four Specialty Doctors, four Specialty Registrars and six FY2/GPST’s team within this busy hospital and outreach clinics. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology serves a wide population from Highland, Argyll and Bute and Grampian regions as well as the Western Isles. There are approximately 2,000 deliveries per year, and a broad range of obstetric and gynaecological services is provided. We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Physician in Rheumatology & General Medicine to work in Dumfries and Galloway. The successful candidate will work primarily at the recently opened state of the art hospital in Dumfries and Galloway. You will join a growing team working closely with the Consultants and Associate Specialists delivering high quality rheumatology services to the people of the region and contributing to the Acute/General Medicine team (on call rota frequency of 1 in 12). The post is for 40 hours a week and you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise nursing and junior medical staff as well as medical students from the Scottish Universities. The Rheumatology team provide a high quality, comprehensive range of services primarily delivered in the outpatient setting, as well as ambulatory/day case treatment through a dedicated unit and inpatient care accommodation within the medical unit. Clinics are run on a hub and spoke model on the Dumfries and Stranraer sites. General Medicine has recently moved to the new hospital which has allowed for reconfiguration of ‘front door services’ with an emphasis on early senior review and decision making. Acute medical patients are now assessed in the Combined Assessment Unity (CAU), which is co-located with the Emergency Treatment Centre. During the working week this is supervised by a dedicated team of Acute Physicians, working doctors in training and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The Successful candidate will form part of the team of physicians supervising medical admissions out of hours and during the weekends on a rostered basis.               Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry – Central Scotland An excellent opportunity is available for a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join an NHS trust located in central Scotland. This is a substantive post and the salary will be on the NHS Scotland pay scale. You will be working with a well-established Community Mental Heath Team for Older Adults (CMHT OA) in a region with approximately 12,000 older people. You will be responsible for the comprehensive mental health care of patients within the catchment area, supported by the well-developed CMHT OA and Care Home Liaison services.  There is a Consultant led Acute Hospital liaison team for older people and an integrated admission ward run by Ageing & Health medicine with mental health support. The current on call rota is 1:5 and you will be part of this. Central Scotland is a fantastic location to settle, you will be working less than 30 minutes from Glasgow city, and under an hour from Edinburgh city. You have the choice to live in a populated area or in a more rural location with beautiful properties and plenty of space. Scotland offers excellent options for children’s education and a free university education also. Broad general psychiatry experience is required with specialty training in Old Age Psychiatry. Consultant Physician in General Medicine - Western Isles The role of Consultant Physician in NHS Western Isles is both challenging and rewarding. Working in a modern well equipped acute sector, supported by a well trained multi professional team, the Consultant Physician provides both emergency and elective care to a high standard. Working within a small team, supported by excellent links with larger units and with high quality connectivity and transport arrangements, the Consultant Physician is the key decision maker for the management of acute medical presentations. The post holder will be based in the Western Isles Hospital which is a Rural General Hospital (Plus) situated in Stornoway, the largest town in the Western Isles. It is a modern, well equipped hospital with a bed complement of 96. There are four acute wards:  2 medical (one of which contains a 4 bedded High Dependency Area (HDA) 2 surgical (one of which is a day surgery unit) and a maternity unit of 6 beds. In addition there are intermediate care (nurse led) orthopaedic and general rehabilitation beds, a 4 bed paediatric area and a 6-bed dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit. The services provided within the medical speciality form a considerable proportion of the workload in the hospital. There are 400 - 450 new out patient referrals per year and approximately 2000 un-selected admissions per year.  There is a separately staffed Day Hospital for clinics and treatment. The WIH uses an innovative approach to the provision of Out of Hours cover. Overnight work is carried out by GPs and Specialist Nurses; weekend day time Out Of Hours work is provided by Junior Doctors and Specialist Nurses.  To be successful in this role you must be on the GMC Specialist Register with current licence to practise, or be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the date of interview.
