Medical Biochemist - Consultant Chemical Pathologist - Scottish Highlands We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Medical Biochemist to work in the beautiful Scottish Highlands in Inverness. This is a replacement post that offers outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to participate in and shape future developments within the Blood Sciences Service. Consultant Physician in Respiratory & General Medicine - Dumfries & Galloway A fantastic opportunity is now available for a Consultant Physician in Respiratory & General Medicine to work in beautiful Dumfries & Galloway. The successful candidate will become a part of the friendly, multi-disciplinary respiratory team and will share responsibility for the care of patients in the Respiratory Unit.  Services provided will include; management of airway diseases (from acute ventilatory failure through to pulmonary rehabilitation), parenchymal lung diseases, lung cancer (with One-Stop clinics for rapid assessment), cystic fibrosis (shared care with Glasgow and Edinburgh) and sleep medicine, together with a home non-invasive ventilation service. Acute non-invasive ventilatory support is delivered within a well-developed critical care unit, enjoying close links with a supportive critical care team.  The consultant job plan is flexible and open to negotiation on appointment, being up to a 12PA contract depending on duties covered. The balance between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities to be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant. Additional EPAs may be offered on appointment for participation in the General Medical on-call rota. Rural Hospital based GP - Scotland       Interested in providing in-patient and A&E care? This is an excellent opportunity to develop acute care skills, supported by a highly-skilled multi-disciplinary team. You will provide medical care to Accident and Emergency Services, Rehabilitation Ward and the Acute Ward.  Based in a modern, purpose-built hospital in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland, the Emergency Department deals with approximately 15,000 patients per year many with relatively minor conditions but occasionally severely ill or injured patients when rapid evacuation will be required.  Supervision of the role in the Emergency Department is provided by Emergency Department Consultants.   The Emergency Department is staffed by experienced nursing staff including 4 Emergency Care Practitioners who will support the post holder in providing Emergency Service – treating minor and moderate illness and injury, admitting selective patients for intermediate care within the Acute Ward,  resuscitation and the transfer of more ill patients to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary by ambulance or for patients with severe trauma contacting the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service in Paisley who will helicopter in a consultant led retrieval team to transfer the patient rapidly to Glasgow. The post holder may occasionally be required to provide medical support, in an emergency, to the midwife led Obstetric Unit, the nurse led Renal Dialysis Unit and nurse delivered Chemotherapy Service.  In these settings no specialist knowledge of Obstetrics, Renal Dialysis or Chemotherapy will be expected: the standard required will be that of the ordinary doctor exercising due care. The purpose of this role is to work with visiting consultants, permanent nursing staff and AHPs in providing the hospital with medical staff appropriately skilled to deal with a wide range of medical work encountered.  The hospital also is the base for the Primary Care Out of Hours Service which is situated within the Emergency Department.  During the Out of Hours periods and weekends, it is expected that the Out of Hours Primary Care GP and the Hospital Doctor will work together sharing, where appropriate the care of patients. Your hours of work will be 44 hours per week on a shift system.  You will be expected to cover all aspects of the role including overnight work, daytime hospital work and weekend work, working in either the Emergency Department or the wards depending on the rota.  You will have advance notice of your part in the rota and each member of the team will rotate through all aspects of the rota and there maybe additional shifts available for you to undertake and these will attract additional remuneration. GP trained doctors may also (if they wish) undertake shifts within the General Practice Out of Hours Service by separate arrangements via a web based session booking system. This is a unique position and requires an experienced GP looking to broaden their skills within a hospital setting. Candidates MUST be registered with the GMC and have a licence to practice. The successful candidate will join the team to provide a wide range of gastroenterology services to the 148,500 population of Dumfries & Galloway. On average there are 8 – 14 patients under the care of the Gastroenterology team. You will be expected to take on oesophageal manometry studies and opportunity will be available to undertake ERCP, therapeutic endoscopy and to train in oesophageal manometry. We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Physician in Rheumatology & General Medicine to work in Dumfries and Galloway. The successful candidate will work primarily at the recently opened state of the art hospital in Dumfries and Galloway. You will join a growing team working closely with the Consultants and Associate Specialists delivering high quality rheumatology services to the people of the region and contributing to the Acute/General Medicine team (on call rota frequency of 1 in 12). The post is for 40 hours a week and you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise nursing and junior medical staff as well as medical students from the Scottish Universities. The Rheumatology team provide a high quality, comprehensive range of services primarily delivered in the outpatient setting, as well as ambulatory/day case treatment through a dedicated unit and inpatient care accommodation within the medical unit. Clinics are run on a hub and spoke model on the Dumfries and Stranraer sites. General Medicine has recently moved to the new hospital which has allowed for reconfiguration of ‘front door services’ with an emphasis on early senior review and decision making. Acute medical patients are now assessed in the Combined Assessment Unity (CAU), which is co-located with the Emergency Treatment Centre. During the working week this is supervised by a dedicated team of Acute Physicians, working doctors in training and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The Successful candidate will form part of the team of physicians supervising medical admissions out of hours and during the weekends on a rostered basis.               Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry – Central Scotland An excellent opportunity is available for a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join an NHS trust located in central Scotland. This is a substantive post and the salary will be on the NHS Scotland pay scale. You will be working with a well-established Community Mental Heath Team for Older Adults (CMHT OA) in a region with approximately 12,000 older people. You will be responsible for the comprehensive mental health care of patients within the catchment area, supported by the well-developed CMHT OA and Care Home Liaison services.  There is a Consultant led Acute Hospital liaison team for older people and an integrated admission ward run by Ageing & Health medicine with mental health support. The current on call rota is 1:5 and you will be part of this. Central Scotland is a fantastic location to settle, you will be working less than 30 minutes from Glasgow city, and under an hour from Edinburgh city. You have the choice to live in a populated area or in a more rural location with beautiful properties and plenty of space. Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia - Scotland             An opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join a fantastic childrens hospital located in Scotland. Previous experience and specialty training in Paediatric Anaesthetics is essential.  You will join a team of 6 experienced Consultants in this region. Anaesthetic support is provided for a range of paediatric surgical specialities, including general surgery (major GI, urology and thoracic cases), orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and maxillofacial surgery. There is a variable neurosurgical caseload that is accommodated within the unscheduled theatre activity. Close cooperation and anaesthetic support exists with all medical paediatric specialities, particularly oncology and gastroenterology. Anaesthetic support is provided for a paediatric dental service, as well as for imaging and other procedures, including MRI, CT, isotope and PET scans, lumbar punctures and long term venous access. This is a full time post working 40 hours per week, the job description comprises 8 programmed activities for direct clinical care and 2 for supporting professional activities (2 EPAs may be agreed with the Clinical Director). Consultant Physician in General Medicine - Western Isles The role of Consultant Physician in NHS Western Isles is both challenging and rewarding. Working in a modern well equipped acute sector, supported by a well trained multi professional team, the Consultant Physician provides both emergency and elective care to a high standard. Working within a small team, supported by excellent links with larger units and with high quality connectivity and transport arrangements, the Consultant Physician is the key decision maker for the management of acute medical presentations. The post holder will be based in the Western Isles Hospital which is a Rural General Hospital (Plus) situated in Stornoway, the largest town in the Western Isles. It is a modern, well equipped hospital with a bed complement of 96. There are four acute wards:  2 medical (one of which contains a 4 bedded High Dependency Area (HDA) 2 surgical (one of which is a day surgery unit) and a maternity unit of 6 beds. In addition there are intermediate care (nurse led) orthopaedic and general rehabilitation beds, a 4 bed paediatric area and a 6-bed dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit. The services provided within the medical speciality form a considerable proportion of the workload in the hospital. There are 400 - 450 new out patient referrals per year and approximately 2000 un-selected admissions per year.  There is a separately staffed Day Hospital for clinics and treatment. The WIH uses an innovative approach to the provision of Out of Hours cover. Overnight work is carried out by GPs and Specialist Nurses; weekend day time Out Of Hours work is provided by Junior Doctors and Specialist Nurses.  To be successful in this role you must be on the GMC Specialist Register with current licence to practise, or be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the date of interview.
